There is a vague sense of fear of the increasingly developing AI when looking at the
previous reports, but with the development of AI, our daily lives have become more convenient than before in many ways. Today, June 6rd, in celebration of Deaf Day, we interviewed deaf people who are able to do more things on their own thanks to AI.

I'm a journalist.

Kim Se-jin, a severely deaf person who enters a
university lecture hall, writes down lectures on his laptop and concentrates on his class.

Thanks to smart glasses that turn a person's voice into letters and display them on the inside of the lens.

[Kim Se-jin/Deaf person: It was uncomfortable because I couldn't hear the sound at all if I was far away. (Now) whether you sit in the front or in the back, you can take notes comfortably, wear glasses, and walk around and talk anywhere....]

Mr. Kim, who usually uses sign language, bought it in February before entering college. [Kim Se-jin/Deaf person: I was able to overcome difficulties by purchasing these glasses.

The latest artificial intelligence technology has been applied.

[Byung-jun Kim / Smart glasses company employee: We have learned Korean for more than 2,2 hours with our own voice recognition technology to improve accuracy. We applied it to augmented reality glasses so that they can be used in various environments.]

It is an assistive device that allows disabled and non-disabled people to talk on the phone.

When a call comes in, the linked tablet is activated, and a predetermined guidance voice is played.

[Call Aid (Guidance Voice): I am deaf, please forgive me for being late in responding.]

Change the other person's voice to writing [

Yes, hello, you're talking on a call aid, so it's really convenient, isn't it?]

When you write a reply, it is delivered to the other person as a voice.

[Call aid (text→speech): It's convenient because the other person's voice can be seen in writing.]

Thanks to advanced digital devices, the daily lives of people with disabilities are also changing drastically, but the penetration rate of digital devices is still only around 5% due to high prices.
