Dubai Customs adopts giant advanced system for vehicle and heavy equipment inspection

Dubai Customs has provided Jebel Ali and TECOM Customs Centre with a world-first advanced system to inspect heavy and light vehicles, large equipment and yachts through X-ray scanning.

The Department stressed that the system increases the center's ability to double inspections, speed up procedures, support the flow of business and trade, and enhances the position of Jebel Ali Port, the largest in the Middle East and one of the most important seaports globally, as the authority shortens the inspection time from approximately six hours manually to only five minutes.


Advanced System

The giant advanced system includes special specifications at the request of Dubai Customs, with the ability to scan vehicles and heavy equipment with a maximum dimensions of (5.9 x 5.5 meters), and the device works in two operating modes: fixed (Jantry) where the vehicle is in a parked position, and «mobile» where the vehicle is scanned while crossing through the device.

The device also has the ability to detect, identify and locate radioactive materials, identify the customs declaration of containers through the container number, and feature remote control including image analysis and make the appropriate decision accordingly.

Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director General of Dubai Customs and CEO of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, said: "Dubai Customs shares Dubai's journey to be one of the fastest growing cities in the world and among the top three economic cities in accordance with its economic agenda launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai."

He added that the advanced device, which was designed specifically for Dubai Customs, will significantly support commercial operations by increasing capacity, speeding up the inspection of heavy and light vehicles, and huge equipment used in many construction and industrial fields.

For his part, Eng. Adel Al Suwaidi, Director of Technical Support Department at Dubai Customs, said: "The advanced system supports the security system in the UAE and Dubai, and enhances the protection of society by adopting the best technical specifications, increasing border and port control, and developing devices and equipment supporting these operations, so that Dubai remains one of the safest cities in the world."

He added: "The acquisition of this globally unique system is a major step towards confirming Dubai Customs' strategy in leading safe customs globally, due to its superior ability to penetrate to detect the contents of vehicles, containers and heavy equipment, and to identify prohibited and prohibited materials," stressing that the department does not hesitate to provide the latest and best technologies and inspection systems, as it attaches utmost importance to protecting society and maintaining security, which is at the heart of customs work.

Inspections

In the same context, Rashid Saif Al Dhabah Al Suwaidi, Director of the Maritime Customs Centers Department (in charge), stressed that "the Department of Maritime Centers at Jebel Ali Port is intensifying efforts, and working side by side with strategic partners, to strengthen Dubai's position as a global hub for international trade and a key link between East and West, and maximize the role of Jebel Ali Port in supply chains and logistics."

He added: "Last year, Jebel Ali Customs and TECOM completed 208.9 thousand inspections of commercial shipments and succeeded in carrying out 326 customs seizures, while the center's teams continue to develop performance in a sustainable manner to achieve the leadership's vision of leading Dubai commercially."
