• Since the beginning of April, a revolution in parking prices has been launched in Strasbourg. In the red zone, the most expensive is 3.50 euros the first hour, 8 the second and... 35 euros the third!
  • Merchants have since complained of seeing their customers flee. So they decided to act on their own scale.
  • In parallel, the economic world is moving and will soon meet the town hall.

A glance out the window and Julien Febvre cannot hide his spite. A few meters from its restaurant and Italian grocery store, the parking lot Place du Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny, in the heart of Strasbourg, seems empty. "Already it was not easy with the work since November, but now, it's worse since parking prices soared at the beginning of April," says the manager of "Bottega Renzini". Its area has gone from orange to red and the rates have also taken a heat shot: 3.50 euros the first hour, 8 the second and... 35 euros the third!

So the trader decided to act. In its own way. Since last Friday, it has been offering discounts to its customers transported. "On presentation of proof of parking, I offer 1 euro for takeaway sales, which is equivalent to thirty minutes of parking. And 3.50 euros on the bill of a meal, which corresponds to an hour, "details the thirty-year-old native of Haute-Marne, who clearly displayed this reduction. As a result, "at least thirty discounts" have been granted for a week.

"A hundred euros per week offered"

Opposite, Audray Gabriel counts rather in euros. The hairdresser also made commercial gestures to her clients. "I am at a hundred euros per week offered," details the director of "MAG Coiffure". "My clients sometimes stay up to three or even four hours so I let you imagine their parking cost! That's why I offer up to 5% discount, which ranges from 5 to 15 euros. »

Both are aware that the situation cannot continue. "We suffer too much and by force, shops will close," denounces Julien Febvre, who now hopes to be heard. Not him directly, but his representatives. "I just did this operation to react. Now, it is up to the UMIH (Union des métiers et des industries de l'hôtellerie) and other organizations to make themselves heard by the town hall. »

Soon a meeting with the town hall

A meeting is obviously planned for June 5 "with local elected officials", as mentioned by the Alsace Chamber of Trades in an email sent to economic actors in Strasbourg. In it, a consultation is also organized. With several possible proposals to evolve this parking reform. Free between noon and 14 pm, from the first hour etc.

"And why not the blue disc," wonders Audray Gabriel, uplifted. "I'm absolutely not against ecology and the fact that there are fewer cars," she concludes. But there are many solutions instead of bludgeoning everyone like that. »
