Chanel announced on Thursday that it had recorded record sales in 2022 worldwide, thanks in particular to the success of its Fashion and Beauty divisions. The luxury group says it is "confident" for the year 2023 "despite the uncertainties of the market".

"Chanel once again achieved a solid financial performance in 2022, with double-digit growth in all categories," said Philippe Blondiaux, Group Chief Financial Officer. The house created by Coco Chanel achieved last year a turnover of $ 17.22 billion, up 10.1% year-on-year with sales exceeding the levels of 2019.

A fashion section that is always popular

For 2023, the group is confident in its ability to "ensure sustainable and healthy growth". The house, now owned by the Wertheimer brothers, is one of the few in the fashion and luxury sector that is still independent. In 2022, the group increased its workforce by 12% to more than 32,000 employees worldwide.

By region, sales increased 16.8% in Europe, 7.2% in Asia Pacific and 9.4% in the Americas. Fashion collections "continue to be well received, with exceptional growth in all categories, especially for leather goods and shoes," says Chanel.

The Parfums Beauté division "benefited from the recovery in travel and sustained demand from local customers". Finally, Watchmaking and Jewelry "continued to show solid momentum". Chanel says it has invested just over two billion dollars in the promotion of its brand, an increase of 14.3% between 2021 and 2022.
