Sweida-SANA

The Directorate of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in Sweida province estimated the production of about 425 tons of garlic in the governorate.

Assistant Director of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Engineer Alaa Shehayeb said in a statement to SANA correspondent that the areas planted with garlic crop amounted to 290 dunums, all irrigated by benefiting from well water, and are concentrated in the western regions of the province, Shahba and Salkhad.

Chehayeb pointed to the economic feasibility of growing garlic as it does not require many services, and its production costs are relatively lower compared to other vegetables, noting that the directorate encourages farmers to grow this crop within the approved plans.

Sweida province produced about 328 tons of garlic last season.
