Sweida-SANA

The total area planted with chickpeas in Sweida for the current season reached about 22882,<> hectares, the majority of which are spring varieties.

The Assistant Director of Agriculture in Suwayda, Engineer Alaa Shehayeb, said in a statement to SANA correspondent today that the cultivation of the chickpea crop has ended in all areas of the governorate, and the reality of the cultivated areas is good, as manual harvesting operations will begin during the next month.

Chehayeb pointed out that the estimates of chickpea production for this season are 6625,<> tons, which is better than last season, as a result of the availability of sufficient moisture stock in the soil after the rainfall during the last period, which encouraged its cultivation in many areas.

The chickpea crop is one of the main crops in the province of Suwayda, which occupies advanced positions in its cultivation among the governorates, and Baala is grown in it depending on rainwater.
