Have you started turning on the air conditioner
in your house? It's already this hot, and I'm a little worried about the cost of cooling this year because the electricity bill has gone up. Even if you take good care of the outdoor unit room of the air conditioner, you can reduce the burden of electricity bills.

Reporter Hyemi Lee will introduce the details.

We experimented with the operation of the outdoor air conditioner unit in a
59m² apartment using smoke and lasers.

First, the upper and lower ventilation windows were opened at a right angle of 90 degrees so that the hot air generated by the spinning of the outdoor unit could escape sufficiently.

Smoke showing the airflow stretches up to 2 meters ahead.

This time, I closed the top window and opened only the bottom.

The length of the smoke stretch is reduced to 30 cm, or 4/1 of the length.

[Byungchang Kwak / Senior Researcher, LH Land and Housing Research Institute: The hot air from the air conditioner is not discharged properly, and it flows back into the room immediately.]

If the hot air exhaled by the outdoor unit cannot be discharged out of the house, the temperature inside the outdoor unit will increase and the energy efficiency of the outdoor unit will decrease.

This means that more electricity is used to lower the temperature, and the cost of electricity is also higher.

The clutter you pile up around the outdoor unit also affects power usage.

It has been observed that as the space behind the outdoor unit decreases, the power usage increases.

[Byungchang Kwak / Senior Researcher, LH Land and Housing Research Institute: The load affects the air circulation. If there is resistance to the air circulation, it may overload (the outdoor unit).]

In fact, there are more than 10 fires in the outdoor air conditioner room due to overload every year.

It is also helpful to attach a wind guidance device called an "air guide" to the front of the outdoor unit to prevent fires and improve energy efficiency.
