In place since December 2022, the "repair bonus", an aid mechanism that aims to encourage the French to turn to authorized repairers to restore their defective devices, would struggle to convince. Only 500,000 euros would have been used, out of a budget of 62 million euros for 2023. As a result, Bérangère Couillard, the Secretary of State for Ecology announced on April 20 that this bonus would be improved on July 1, reports Numerama.

First of all, more repair situations should be taken care of by the bonus. The number of QualiRépar certified repairers in the territory will also increase. Finally, the bonus amounts will double. For example, they will go to 30 euros for an electric scooter, a vacuum cleaner or a drill, 50 euros for a smartphone, tablet or washing machine, 60 euros for a TV and 90 euros for a laptop.

Convincing the giants of the sector

For now, the new items soon to be supported by the bonus have not all been specified. But, according to Le Parisien, the replacement of a broken smartphone screen should join the list of eligible operations.

At the level of authorized repairers, if the Boulanger and E. Leclerc brands have already integrated the system, the minister would also like to convince the other giants of the sector, such as Darty, Fnac and Apple. In addition, access to the QualiRépar label should be relaxed to facilitate the entry of independent repairers.

Certain conditions

As a reminder, the "repair bonus" only applies for certain products, depending on the amount of the repair to be made. The lump sum must be exceeded, or, in the case of certain products, a minimum repair amount must be exceeded.

It is also necessary that the product is broken, repairable, that the legal warranty has expired, that it is not covered by insurance and that it was purchased in France by an individual. If the product and the breakdown meet all these conditions, then there is nothing to do to take advantage of the bonus: it will be automatically deducted from the invoice, legibly, at an authorized repairer.
