Many traditional services that had disappeared are now reinventing themselves in collaborative and ultra-flexible versions under the rise of online start-ups. After the services of concierge, parcel deposit or transport of personal belongings, it is the turn of luggage storage to find a new audience.

The principle: dust off the classic locker service at the station or at the airport, which is not always adapted to the needs of travelers.

Similarly, while most hotels offer to keep your suitcases for free for a few hours or the day, it often involves making time-consuming trips back and forth on your last day in town, rather than enjoying your time there.

Locker or deposit at a merchant

To avoid all these hassles, luggage lockers of a new kind have been developing in recent years. Their selling point? Multiply the secure drop-off points so that they are accessible to as many people as possible and without constraint.

Some then choose automatic lockers in the form of lockers available at any time such as City Locker in Paris, while Bagmobile, present in Marseille, Lourdes and Nice, offers lockers as well as shops dedicated to luggage storage.

But it is above all the networks associated with local traders that have the wind in their sails since they allow a multiplication of reception points, a fortiori in tourist places.

For example, the Stasher platform, founded in 2015, is present in more than 250 tourist cities around the world, including Paris, where it offers a secure left-luggage service in shops and hotels for €4.95 per day, including insurance.

With a similar price, Bounce claims more than 8,000 storage locations in more than 1,000 cities around the world, including the French capital.

As for the French start-up Nannybag, founded in 2016 and acquired 49% by Pickup, La Poste's parcel relay network, it has more than 10,000 lockers in 40 countries and allows you to offload your luggage in 267 cities in France.
