Today May Day, Labor Day.
Initiatives to celebrate the anniversary are multiplying, but the reports that photograph the employment situation in Italy continue to speak of a picture that is anything but rosy: made of precariousness, inadequate salaries, too high taxation.

The unemployment rate - these are the latest data for February - stands at 8%.
However, it jumps to 14.4% for young people aged between 15 and 34. While the youth in the strict sense (15-24 years) is at 23.7%. But the numbers provided by the Censis report also show that over 2 million young people carry out so-called "non-standard" jobs because they are temporary or part-time. Jobs that do not guarantee the remuneration and stability necessary for an adequate standard of living and, above all, for plans for the future.

So more and more people are leaving the country to move abroad, where they find jobs suitable for their training and better paid.
There is talk of over 1 million Italians, of which 1 in 4 graduates and 1 in 3 between 25 and 34 years. And while young people are decreasing, pensioners are 14 million and 895 thousand: in 2040 there will be more than 17 million.

National demonstration of trade unions in Potenza

The unions - which are asking the government for concrete and rapid answers to reverse these trends - are now promoting various demonstrations throughout the country.
The main event, the national demonstration of the three main trade unions, CGIL, CISL and UIL, will be in Potenza. Choice - they underline - "as a city symbol of the difficult situation of the South, but also as a place from which to start a new season of revival and growth of the South".
This year's slogan is "Founded on work", given that Labor Day is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Constitution: where - add the trade union confederations - "work is recognized as the first fundamental principle of the Italian Republic, a personal right and a social duty that must be guaranteed and valued".

In Rome the traditional concertone returns, as in Taranto

In the afternoon in Rome, in Piazza San Giovanni, the now classic "concertone" is held.
Nine hours of live music and about fifty artists, with the conduction of Ambra Angiolini and Francesco Biggio. Alternative, as always, the music festival to be held in Taranto: on stage will go up Niccolò Fabi, Vinicio Capossela, Francesca Michielin, Samuele Bersani, La Rappresentante di Lista and Gemitaiz.
