Which means of transport can I use with the Deutschlandticket?

The Deutschlandticket is a nationwide fare offer for public transport. It costs 49 euros per month. After purchase, it is valid from the first day of each month. Holders of the ticket are allowed to use buses, subways, trams, suburban trains and public regional and local trains throughout Germany. Some ferries, which are part of the public transport system, such as in Berlin and Hamburg, are also included.

For long-distance trains such as the ICE, EC or IC or the private Flixtrain, on the other hand, a separate ticket is still required. Long-distance buses, such as Flixbus and Blablabus, cannot be used with the Deutschlandticket. Caution applies to long-distance trains that were previously usable with a local transport ticket, for example Stuttgart-Singen. It is still unclear whether the Deutschlandticket will also apply here. A passenger can find out whether a train falls into this category in the DB Navigator rail app under the journey details. For the long-distance trains on the Rostock-Stralsund connection, it has already been decided that the new ticket may be used.

Where can I buy the Deutschlandticket?

The ticket can be purchased at Deutsche Bahn ticket counters. There, the ticket is also available in physical form, either as a chip card or on paper. In addition, it is possible to purchase the ticket via the digital sales channels of the various transport companies and Deutsche Bahn. In addition, it is possible to buy the ticket in the Deutschlandticket app. The newly launched app is operated by a total of 23 transport companies and is used to easily manage the Deutschlandticket.

I already have a monthly pass or annual pass – what now?

What exactly happens to your own transport subscription depends on the respective transport association. The Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar, for example, automatically converts all monthly tickets that cost more than 49 euros to the Deutschlandticket. Others, such as the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV), do not. Many transport companies contact their customers individually to see if they want to switch to a Deutschlandticket. Those who have not yet been contacted in this regard are advised to initiate the change on their own and to check with their transport association.

Is the Deutschlandticket also available as a job ticket?

Yes – if the employer has concluded a corresponding agreement with the respective transport company. If the employer pays at least 25 percent of the ticket price, the federal and state governments contribute another five percent. This pushes the price down to 34.30 euros. An F.A.S. survey of 34 large companies shows that almost half will offer the Deutschlandticket as a discounted job ticket, many of them as early as May. The average price that employees have to pay for their Deutschlandticket is 27 euros. Hannover Re provides its employees with the ticket free of charge.
