After the Easter trips, gasoline will become cheaper again

The prices of gasoline and diesel have fallen again somewhat. According to figures from the Internet platform Clever Tanken, a liter of diesel recently cost an average of 1,638 euros. At Easter, it had been 1.70 euros at times. Super E10 fell from 1.82 euros at Easter to 1.784 euros per litre.

The Bundeskartellamt had dealt with the question of whether the oil companies would have raised fuel prices especially for travel during the Easter holidays. In previous years, there had been at least some signs of this. For this year, however, this could not be proven, said the Cartel Office.

Diesel is now cheaper than Super E10 again. The price difference is just under 15 cents. This is more than in most of the time since the start of the Ukraine war, but still less than the difference in taxation of around 20 cents would actually suggest.

Crude oil had already become cheaper last week, the price of a barrel (159 liters) of North Sea Brent crude had fallen significantly from more than 87 dollars at times. It's been an up and down this week; on Monday, the price was at times only a good 80 dollars before there was a countermovement, on Tuesday at times at a good 82 dollars. The American variety West Texas Intermediate (WTI) traded at just over 78 dollars.

This means that oil prices, which had risen considerably after the announcement of a production cut by the oil state association OPEC plus, have calmed down somewhat. The premiums they had achieved after the surprising cut, they have given up to a considerable extent. In the past week alone, oil prices have fallen by around four dollars. This was mainly due to weak economic data from the United States, which gave rise to new economic and recession concerns.

The price of heating oil in Germany, which had also risen noticeably after the announcements of the production cut by the oil states, has now fallen again, even below its old level. According to figures from the Internet platform Heizoel 24, to which 500 oil traders report their prices, the price on Tuesday was a good 94 euros for 100 liters with the purchase of 3000 liters. That's about how much heating oil had cost at times in the weeks before the start of the Ukraine war.
