Officials of outlets told Emirates Today that the goods covered by the sale offers are the best-selling during the current Ramadan season, noting that consumers are waiting for the best discounts to shop, and they have become more keen to direct spending to buy discount goods that achieve added value.

They stressed that there is an increase in sales in general, especially foodstuffs, which recorded an increase during the Ramadan by up to 20%, pointing out at the same time that consumer purchases increased by more than 15%.

They stated that this Ramadan has witnessed a great demand for buying healthy foods, especially sugar-free and low-fat.

increase

Bernardo Pirloero, Chief Operating Officer of Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said that food purchases through Carrefour in the UAE increased by 15 per cent this Ramadan season, and sales of fresh vegetables grew as consumers turned to preparing healthy breakfasts at home, noting that the launch of the Emirati Fresh Food Festival at Carrefour with additional discounts of up to 30 per cent on local products supported this trend.

He added that there has been an increase in the total volume of consumer purchases, amounting to 11%, as well as a significant increase in sales coinciding with the start of the discount campaigns for the Ramadan season, which were launched by Carrefour on February 21.

He pointed out that the products included in the sale offers, in addition to the wholesale offers, contributed to the increase in the size of the shopping basket.

Best Sellers

Perloero stressed that the best-selling commodities during the current Ramadan season are the commodities offered in the sale offers, especially food ones, such as rice, milk and fresh products, which is a clear indication that consumers are waiting for the best discounts to shop and stock up on supplies, pointing out that the offers are changed weekly while targeting a wide range of commodity categories to ensure that the offers meet the needs and requirements of different categories of consumers.

Some seasonal products, such as dates and juices, are always popular during the Ramadan season, regardless of marketing offers, he said, but their sales increase further if offers are available.

Perloero added that sales of kitchen appliances and utensils increased by 6% during the Ramadan season, due to the need to update appliances that contribute to food preparation and take advantage of the discount offers offered on these appliances and tools.

Groceries

Nanda Kumar, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Lulu Group International, said that food commodities, especially groceries, are the best-selling commodities this Ramadan, especially rice, dairy and their products, in addition to sugar and meat, as well as fresh products, especially vegetables and fruits.

Kumar added that the current Ramadan has witnessed a great demand for buying healthy foods, especially sugar-free and low-fat, noting that this trend has begun to emerge since the Corona pandemic and is still in place.

He pointed out that the goods of offers and discounts are the best-selling in the current Ramadan season, stressing that consumers have become more keen than before to buy the goods they really need and direct spending to buy discount goods that achieve added value.

purchases

Ahmed Siddiqui, an official at one of the outlets, said that this Ramadan month witnessed an increase in sales in general, especially sales of basic food commodities, which increased by up to 20%, such as rice, dairy and their products, as well as flour, sugar, vegetables, fruits, bread and others.

He pointed out that there has been an increase in the average size of the consumer shopping basket by more than 15%, affected by the increase in consumer needs in Ramadan, the increase in banquets and charity works, in addition to the increase in discount offers.

Seddiqi explained that discount items, especially foodstuffs, are the best-selling items during the Ramadan, followed by some household appliances, kitchen utensils, detergents and paper products, pointing out that many consumers have become more dependent on discounted goods to meet most of their needs.

He stated that this year's sale offers were distinguished by the fact that they included hundreds of food and non-food commodities, while making sure that the discounts include more than one brand per commodity, especially food commodities, which provided consumers with a wide choice.
