The online tax filing service opens Thursday, April 13. From this date, taxpayers will have to go to their "individual" space on the impots.gouv.fr website to declare their 2022 income.

Depending on their place of residence, users have an online declaration deadline to respect, says the Ministry of the Economy. People living in the departments numbered from 01 to 19, as well as for non-residents, the procedure is to be carried out before Thursday, May 25 at 23:59. For the second zone, which includes departments ranging from numbers 20 to 54, taxpayers have until Thursday, June 1 at 23:59 p.m. For the last zone, i.e. the departments numbered from 55 to 974/976, the online declaration is possible until Thursday, June 8 at 23:59 p.m.

Beware of late penalties

Online reporting is mandatory for all households with an Internet connection. For persons not equipped with this access, the declaration must be made on paper. In this case, the deadline for filing declarations is 22 May 2023 at 23:59 (including for French nationals residing abroad), as evidenced by the postmark.

Taxpayers who report their income late will have to pay a penalty. This is 10% in the absence of formal notice, says the Public Service website. It rises to 20% if the declaration is filed late within 30 days of the formal notice and to 40% if the declaration has not been filed within 30 days of receipt of a formal notice. In addition, there is default interest, which amounts to 0.20% of the tax due per month of delay (i.e. 2.4% over 1 year).
