At a time when all rates are soaring, there are no small savings, even on cents! Eurocycler terminals are particularly popular with consumers who want to make their currency profitable: while the 1, 2 and 5 cent coins, or even the 10 and 20, are often removed from the wallet and end up getting lost in the nooks and crannies of the house, these machines installed in supermarkets offer to value them.

Coinstar France, the company that has been managing these devices since 2018, offers by default to convert these coins into vouchers that can then be used in store. But retailers can also activate other options, such as donation, as part of a partnership with Operation Yellow Coins, or games such as instant winner or raffle.

To date, some 1,100 Eurocycler terminals are located on the national territory in almost all supermarkets (Auchan, Carrefour, Casino, Cora, Intermarché, Leclerc, Système U, etc.).

And the system seems to be gaining momentum! According to Coinstar France figures, some 2.1 million users inserted nearly half a billion coins into these terminals in 2021, for a total amount of around 40 million euros. This represents an increase of 4% over the previous year.

OUR "CURRENCY" FILE

On average, the value of the currency exchanged for vouchers is €19, knowing that 77% of the collection concerns coins of 1, 2 and 5 cents. Proof that the device is used to boost purchasing power, the amounts recycled at the end of the month are 20 to 25% higher than the rest of the month.
