Dubai Airports and DEWA discuss energy efficiency upgrades

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), received a delegation from Dubai Airports, headed by Chief Executive Officer Paul Griffiths, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between DEWA and Dubai Airports as part of the strategic partnership between the two sides.

The meeting discussed the latest developments in the project implemented by Etihad Energy Services Company (Etihad ESCO), which is wholly owned by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), to rehabilitate a number of buildings at Dubai Airports, with the aim of enhancing energy efficiency.


Al Tayer pointed out that in line with the vision and directives of the leadership to consolidate the green economy in the UAE, DEWA is keen to strengthen cooperation with government and private institutions that share its vision to promote environmental sustainability and achieve carbon neutrality.

Al Tayer praised Dubai Airports for adopting the concept of sustainability in all its operations, pointing out that the authority established Etihad ESCO to promote energy efficiency in Dubai, at a time when the company has succeeded in rehabilitating nearly 8000,<> existing buildings in Dubai.

Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said: "Dubai Airports is proud to partner with DEWA on the Etihad Energy Services Company project to rehabilitate a number of buildings at Dubai Airports and enhance energy efficiency.

"We aim to contribute to the UAE government's goals towards a zero-carbon economy by 2050, at a time when our top priority in 2023 is to provide sustainable operations at a time when we seek to maintain our position as the operator of the world's busiest airport."

Etihad ESCO has installed a solar energy system at Terminal 2 at Dubai International Airport, the largest of its kind at an international airport in the region.
