According to officials at retail outlets, the decision to increase the prices of poultry and eggs by 13%, which was recently approved by the Ministry of Economy, did not show its effects immediately in the markets during the current period, with many Ramadan offers launched before and during the month of Ramadan.

They pointed out to Emirates Today that the sale offers, which continue until the end of Ramadan, have provided discounted alternatives to poultry and egg commodities.

In turn, consumers explained that the increases appeared in some outlets, especially medium ones, while they did not appear significantly in outlets that offer expanded offers for Ramadan discounts.

In detail, the consumer, Mohammed Abdulaziz, said that «the recent price increases for poultry and eggs, by up to 13%, their effects appeared in some outlets, while it was not very clear in the outlets that provide expanded offers for Ramadan discounts, some of which included those goods».

The consumer, Magdy Samer, explained that «some Ramadan offers did not focus significantly on eggs and poultry, which showed the impact of the price increases scheduled on those goods, while some other outlets, especially the quality of the hypermarket, provided products for poultry and eggs with discounts in varying proportions on some products, but not on all».

The consumer, Hassan Abdul Majeed, pointed out that «discounts can limit price increases, but they are temporary, and it is possible that they will appear in the coming days, and more after the end of the offers at the end of the Ramadan».

For his part, the Director of the Marketing and Happiness Department at Union Coop, Dr. Suhail Al-Bastaki, said that «the offers offered in Ramadan had positive effects in reducing the repercussions of the recent increases in the prices of poultry and eggs», pointing out that «some offers included poultry products at rates of up to 45%, while the planned increases were rates of up to 13%», pointing out that «offers and discounts will continue until the end of the Eid al-Fitr period».

The Director of Procurement at the Emirates Association, Mohamed Magdy, explained that «Ramadan discount offers provided alternatives at prices for poultry and egg commodities at low prices, which provided products at reduced prices, whether from eggs or poultry», pointing out that «egg products are sold at prices of 13.50 dirhams for an egg carton that includes 30 eggs, within the offers, while they are sold at prices ranging between 17 and 18 dirhams outside the offers in the markets».

He explained that «a number of suppliers are coordinating with sales outlets to offer discounted offers during the month of Ramadan, despite the approval of the application of increases».

Faisal Khalid Al Nabouda, Director of Marketing and Relations at Sharjah Coop, said, "Some outlets applied the increases, while others were not applied as a result of Ramadan offers, especially in light of the high competition between outlets in offering discount offers commensurate with the needs of the Ramadan season."

He added that «the cooperative did not raise prices during the period of Ramadan offers, and coordinates with suppliers to provide a large stock of goods during the period of Ramadan sales», pointing out that «Ramadan offers eased the impact of raising the prices of poultry and eggs, following the approval of the ministry».
