Another thing that has been criticized by the government in
recent years is the issue of working hours. In response to the controversy over the amendment, not long ago, President Yoon Seok-yeol said that it was unreasonable to work more than 60 hours a week, but today (20th) the president's office announced that it is possible to work more than 60 hours. As a result of this confusion, the Ministry of Employment, the main ministry, is not properly directing the policy.

This was covered by reporter Jung Ban-suk.

The government's revision of working hours
says "a maximum of 69 hours a week is possible."

As the backlash intensified, President Yoon Seok-yeol made it clear that the working hour cap should be lowered.

[Ahn Sang-hoon/Chief of Social Affairs in the Office of the President (last 16 days): The President has the perception that even if he works overtime, more than 60 hours a week is unreasonable.]

The Ministry of Employment and Labor, which initiated the review, began collecting comments.

We also met with new labor unions led by the MZ generation and visited IT companies to listen to the voices of workers.

[Minister of Employment and Labor Lee Jeong-sik: The reality is that we can't even use up all the annual leave we have. The reorganization plan was prepared with the intention that we can reduce the actual working hours if we can take vacations as much as possible.]

It is reported that they are considering a plan to guarantee the right to leave, which has been raised mainly as a problem, and to reduce the maximum working hours of 69 hours to below 60 hours, while making amendments that can take advantage of the purpose of flexibility.

But today, a senior official in the Office of the President again expressed the position that it could be more than 60 hours.

He said 60 hours is not a presidential guideline, and that 60 hours or more could come out if he gets an opinion.

In the wake of policy confusion, the labor community has increased its level of criticism.

[Yang Kyung-so/MDP Chairman: This is a law that promotes guarosa that destroys the health and lives of workers through murderous long hours.]

Pointing out that the government's position would fluctuate from 69 hours to 59 hours or less and then to more than 60 hours, the Ministry of Employment and Labor only reiterated its principled position that "it will be decided according to the results of the consultation."
