The service trade union Verdi and the railway and transport union (EVG) are apparently planning a joint one-day warning strike for 27 March. This is reported by the "Bild am Sonntag".

"If we do that, we will announce strikes in good time. Of course, we dovetail with Verdi. We do not want competition on the backs of employees, but good wages for all employees in the mobility industry," said the deputy chairwoman of the EVG, Cosima Ingenschay, the paper.

When asked, Verdi did not want to confirm or deny the strike plans. According to the newspaper, the railway is already working on emergency plans for the day. If such a warning strike were to take place in the mobility sector, public transport, airports and the federal motorway company would be affected in addition to Deutsche Bahn.

On 27 March, the next round of negotiations for the 2.5 million public sector employees at federal and municipal level will begin. In view of record inflation, Verdi is demanding a wage increase of 10.5 percent, but at least 500 euros more per month. The EVG wants 12 percent more wages and at least 650 euros a month more. Deutsche Bahn has not yet submitted an offer for the 180,000 employees.
