Meta is considering creating an alternative to Twitter
Meta, Facebook's parent company, is considering creating an alternative to the popular short blogging app Twitter.
A Meta spokesperson told The Register: "We are exploring setting up a decentralized, independent social network to share text updates. We believe there is an opportunity for a separate space where content creators and public icons can share updates on their interests in a timely manner."
As a decentralized service, which means users can set up their own micronetworks, what Meta offers will be similar to existing services like Mastodon. Jack Dorsey, one of Twitter's founders and former president, is working on a similar decentralized service called BlueSky that can so far only be tested by select users.
