The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) revealed that the number of graduates of the "National Air Traffic Control Training Program" has increased, with the Emiratization rate in the air traffic control sector at the center exceeding the 50% barrier, and 100% at the first and second administrative levels, noting that the number of citizens within the program in the training phase is currently 18 trainees.

The authority added to Emirates Today that five trainees will join the training in the program during the month of March, in addition to five trainees who will join the training in the program during September 2023, with an average of 28 citizens in the training phase until the end of the year.

In detail, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said that "the number of graduates of the National Air Traffic Control Training Program is increasing, as part of its permanent participation in the growth of the aviation industry, and its continuous support in advancing Emiratization and investment in citizens."

"This program is designed to train participants to become competent air traffic controllers, in order to ensure safe and effective air traffic management in our airspace," GACA added, stressing its constant keenness to continue providing distinguished training opportunities for air traffic controllers. The Assistant Director General of the Air Navigation Services Sector at the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Jallaf, stressed that «the number of graduates within the air traffic control localization program at the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Center, is constantly increasing», noting that «the percentage of Emiratization in the air traffic control sector in the center, exceeded the barrier of 50%, and this percentage reaches 100% at the first and second administrative levels». Al-Jallaf added to Emirates Today that "the number of citizens within the program in the training phase is currently 18 trainees, in addition to five trainees who will join the training in the program during the month of March, and five trainees who will join the training in the program during September 2023, at a rate of 28 citizens in the training phase until the end of the year." Al Jallaf stressed that "the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre is considered the most important air traffic management center in the Middle East, and the airspace of the UAE is considered one of the busiest and densest airspaces," noting that "air traffic exceeded the numbers before the (Covid-19) pandemic in many days, and today we are witnessing a strong recovery and return to the aviation sector and our expectations for growth continue significantly." Al Jallaf pointed out that the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), represented by the Air Navigation Services Sector, trains and attracts highly skilled national cadres to keep pace with the rapid growth witnessed by the aviation sector, by subjecting them to intensive training courses. He stated that among the conditions that must be met by the person applying for the air traffic control training program, is that he must be a UAE national, and that the age of the applicant is between 19 and 24 years, and holds a high school diploma, with a rate of not less than 80%, as well as a good level of English, noting that the student applies to join the air traffic control training program, and after passing all the tests of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and the medical examination of air traffic controllers, he joins the monitoring training program. GACA explained that «the training program lasts between 24 and 30 months, through which work is done to develop the trainee's various capabilities and qualify him to work in technical support jobs, in order to gain experience in the field of aviation and air navigation, and he is also attached to specialized internal and external courses, and when the trainee passes the training program and obtains an air traffic control license, he is appointed as an air traffic officer at the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Center, which is the latest, most advanced and equipped in the Middle East».
