Japan Display, a liquid crystal panel maker, has announced that it will sell its factory in Aichi Prefecture, which will end production this month, to a semiconductor maker of the Sony Group.

According to the announcement, Japan Display will sell the factory building and equipment in Higashiura-cho, Aichi Prefecture to Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing, a semiconductor manufacturer of the Sony Group.



The building and equipment will be handed over in April next year, and the sale price has not been disclosed.



This factory was established in 1997 and produces small liquid crystal panels for digital cameras, etc., but due to the spread of smartphones and other factors, demand has fallen, and production is scheduled to end this month. I was looking for



Employees who were working at the factory will be transferred to other locations to maintain employment.



On the other hand, Sony's semiconductor subsidiary has already rented part of this factory to produce ultra-compact organic EL displays used in digital cameras, etc., and will continue to produce such products even after acquiring the factory. We will consider the use of the purchased buildings and facilities in the future.



Japan Display has been in the red for eight consecutive years until last year, and is aiming to improve its financial situation by selling the factory.
