Ford's management has presented this Friday its proposal to adjust its workforce at the Almussafes (Valencia) factory, which

will gradually reduce its workload on conventional models to focus on electric ones from 2025

.

The first intention of the company, which will begin to negotiate with the unions, is to

cut 1,100 jobs out of the 6,000

that make up the current workforce.

"Ford is making progress in its European transformation by announcing plans to downsize its workforce in Spain derived from the review of the range of vehicles. Ford Spain has informed the Negotiating Commission that approximately 1,100 jobs are affected, mainly due to the already announced ,

cessation of production of S-Max and Galaxy in April 2023.

Ford will work constructively with the unions to reduce the impact of this situation on employees, their families and the local community, "says the statement released by the company.

Electrification

Production of the S-Max and Galaxy models is scheduled to cease in April of this year because the multinational

is accelerating its strategy towards the total electrification of its passenger vehicles in 2030 and of its entire portfolio in 2035

.

Thus, the Almussafes factory

will be left with the production of only the Kuga

, the currently heaviest, until the manufacture of the new electric ones.

The Valencia factory was chosen to produce the new GE2 electric vehicle platform from 2025, a decision that ensured the workload for years to come.

Although the award of the new electric vehicles meant guaranteeing the future of the factory, the company's management advanced that

the transformation of production would mean downsizing the workforce

because the manufacture of electric vehicles requires less manpower.
