The employers' side presented an offer in the collective bargaining round for the 2.4 million employees of the federal government and municipalities on Thursday. According to Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD), it includes a linear increase in wages of 3 percent this year and another 2 percent next year.

Part of the employer's offer are therefore also tax- and duty-free one-off payments in the amount of a total of 2500 euros spread over two years. The service trade union Verdi and the German Civil Service Association (DBB) demand 10.5 percent, but at least 500 euros more salary per month.

Both unions immediately rejected the offer as inadequate. This will not be accepted by the employees, said Verdi Federal boss Frank Werneke. The linear increase offered corresponds to a volume of 5 percent. This is not enough to compensate for inflation. "With the content of their offer, the employers do not solve the collective bargaining dispute. The consequence is that the warning strikes will be extended," said Werneke.

DBB boss Ulrich Silberbach announced a very clear response from the employees. The third round of collective bargaining is planned for 27 to 29 March again in Potsdam.
