The Bank of France warns about a new scam with fake checks. Some individuals would try to pay using forged cheques. The latter are "written on plain paper", on which the Bank of France "appears to be the bank of the issuer", explains the organization in a statement published Tuesday on its website.

People receiving these checks as a means of payment quickly find themselves facing a problem: they cannot be cashed because of incorrect contact details and non-existent accounts, says MoneyVox.

No accounts at the Bank of France for individuals

"Since 2021, individuals can no longer hold accounts with the Bank of France," explains the organization, which claims to have had to reject several forms established on plain paper.

Even if the writing of a check on plain paper is always possible, the Bank of France reminds that the information contained therein must be accurate and that this check must be associated with an existing account. Faced with this scam, it recommends that professionals "not accept such easily recognizable checks in payment of their bills or debts" and asks individuals not to write them to pay their bills.
